IPng: TACIT Presented by Geoff Huston/Australian Academic & Research Network Biography: Geoff Huston is the Network Technical Manager of the Australian Academic and Research Network. He is also a co-chair of the Internet Operators group, the Intercontinental Engineering and Planning Group (IEPG), and is currently Secretary of the Internet Society. This presentation outlined the intent of the Transition and Coexistence Including Testing BOF (TACIT) and indicated the role of the BOF within the IPng process. The presentation included a brief overview of the issues involved with deployment of new Internet technology onto the established Internet, and noted that these areas had not traditionally been incorporated into the IETF process. However, the deployment issues of IPng were considered to be sufficiently important to explore within the context of a BOF session, and, interest allowing, to charter a working group within the IPng Area to examine the issue of deploying new Internet technologies. The issues to be examined include procedural issues concerning product testing and assurance, availability, refinement, and transition and coexistence with existing technology. The operational issues to be covered include service impact management, product deployment costs and legacy impact.
