Notification of RefSeq processing error

Scope: 1216 RefSeq transcript and protein accessions
       Saccharomyces cerevisiae s288C

A processing bug  has been identified that resulted in incorrect updates to a subset of the RefSeq transcript and 
protein records for Saccharomyces cerevisiae s288C.  The  June 26, 2012 update reflects incorrect tracking from 
the GenBank protein accession to the RefSeq transcript and protein accession.  This affected 1216 transcript and 
protein accessions (and corresponding genes) and resulted in a change of the historical RefSeq accession to SGD id 
association in the annotation. 

For example, the data association for the ECM31 gene prior to June 26,2012 was:

RefSeq Accession data: NM_001178524.1 NP_009735.1
       * RefSeq accessions represent the ECM31 gene data and sequence
Corresponding GenBank protein accession data: DAA07291.1
Corresponding GenBank LocusTag: YBR176W
SGD ID: SGD:S000000380

The error introduced with the June 26, 2012 update erroneously associated the EMC31 RefSeq accessions (NM_001178524 NP_009735)  
with the SEC66 gene and its sequence as follows: 

RefSeq Accession data: NM_001178524.2 NP_009735.2 
	* RefSeq accessions updated to represent the SEC66 gene data and sequence; this is an error as the sequence associated 
          with these accessions is completely unrelated to the previous version. NM_001178524.1,  NP_009735.1 have no sequence 
          similarity to NM_001178524.2  NP_009735.2
Corresponding GenBank protein accession data: DAA07287.1
Corresponding GenBank LocusTag: YBR171W
SGD ID: SGD:S000000375


This error was corrected on July 30, 2012 so that the correct data association is again reflected in RefSeq records:

RefSeq Accession data: NM_001178524.3  NP_009735.3
       * RefSeq accessions updated to represent the ECM31 gene data and sequence; the sequence data for NM_001178524.3  
       NP_009735.3 is now identical to the original version NM_001178524.1  NP_009735.1
Corresponding GenBank protein accession data: DAA07291.1
Corresponding GenBank LocusTag: YBR176W
SGD ID: SGD:S000000380

These 1216 erroneous associations were incorporated in RefSeq release 54. The historically correct associations were restored 
on July 30, 2012 and a corrected version will be included in the September RefSeq release 55.
