Optional software packages for Minix-vmd

This is under construction!
The packages shown are ready, but a few more are waiting to be added.

Bug: The 1.7.0 pkgadd command mistakenly uses vol -1 to unpack a device like a floppy. If you want to install a package that is placed on more than one floppy then either edit out the -1 flag in the pkgadd script, or use a command like this to unpack and install:

vol /dev/fd0 | pkgadd -x - name

The list of packages below has the following format:

Title: Name of the package.
Requires: One or more packages this package depends on.
Sizes: Size compressed, size after pkgadd + pkgclean, size after pkgclean -b.
A short description of what the package entails.

Title: XF86-3.1.1
Sizes: 13M, 26M, 26M
This is the X Consortium X Window System X11R6 as modified by the XFree86 team. This package only contains the basic set of programs that are necessary to put lots of text windows on your screen. This is because Minix-vmd's lack of shared libraries, which is normally not much of a problem, makes the X binaries about 6M apiece. The rest of the package is complete.

Requires: XF86-3.1.1
Sizes: 12M, 28M, 28M
This is not really a package, but two separate sets of all the X programs that are missing from the XF86-3.1.1 package. You can either retrieve them all at once under the name XF86-3.1.1-bin or each program separately from the directory XF311bin/. The files in this directory contain the programs packed separately in a compressed tar file each to ensure that the file attributes are copied with them. You must extract either the whole set, or the separate programs as root in the directory /opt/XF86-3.1.1/bin/ with the command

Mpeg_play 2.0 and XAnim 2.70.6.3, programs for viewing animations on an X11 display.

Title: calc

Calc 1.24.7 is an arbitrary precision programmable calculator.

Title: chimera
Requires: XF86-3.1.1
Sizes: 286k, 2.1M, 908k
Chimera 1.63 is a simple X-based WWW browser.

Title: elm
Sizes: 557k, 2.7M, 632k
Elm 2.4, The USENET version of the Elm Mail System. Elm is a screen oriented email user agent. Given that the Minix-vmd mail command is not much good yet, this package is almost mandatory if you'd like to receive or send email under Minix-vmd.

Title: httpd

NCSA httpd 1.4, the WWW document server.

Title: mh
Sizes: 1.1M, 8.5M, 4.5M
MH-6.8.3, a message handling (mail) system. An email user agent for people with high demands and the ability to remember a dozen or so extra commands.

Title: vmail
Requires: mh
Sizes: 32k, 218k, 115k
Vmail is an interactive mail handler that sits on top of MH.

Title: xv
Requires: XF86-3.1.1
Sizes: 2.3M, 11M, 1.8M
XV 3.10 displays images files on an X11 screen.
