The best way to recognize if you have a full-duplex soundcard is to press the MENU button and see if FULL DUPLEX is checked. If FULL DUPLEX is grayed out, you probably have a half-duplex soundcard (see Using Net2Phone With a half-duplex Soundcard). You may actually have a full-duplex soundcard, but your soundcard drivers may not be up to date. In order to confirm whether or not you have a full-duplex soundcard, contact the manufacturer of your soundcard. If FULL DUPLEX is grayed out, Net2Phone will operate in a half-duplex mode. When using Net2Phone in full-duplex mode, FDX will appear on the Net2Phone screen during all calls. · Using Net2Phone with a half-duplex soundcard Similar to a walkie-talkie, a half-duplex soundcard allows you to speak or listen, but not at the same time. When using Net2Phone with a half-duplex soundcard, Net2Phone allows you to choose between automatic (VOX ON) and manual (VOX OFF) modes of operation. Net2Phone will initially open in manual (VOX OFF) mode. In order to change from Vox OFF to VOX ON (automatic mode), press the MENU button and click VOX. When Net2Phone is operated with a half-duplex soundcard, the TALK button will appear between the CALL and END buttons when any call is initiated. VOX OFF: Manual Mode · In order to talk to the person you have called, either click and hold the TALK button OR press and hold down the spacebar on your keyboard. The word TALK will appear. · In order to hear the person you have called, either release your mouse from the TALK button OR release the spacebar on your keyboard. The word LISTEN will appear. Net2Phone will remain in LISTEN mode unless the TALK button is clicked OR the spacebar is pressed. When you click the PUSH TO TALK button OR press the spacebar, you must wait until TALK appears on the message screen to start talking. Do not release your mouse from the TALK button OR release the spacebar until you are completely finished speaking. When using Net2Phone in a half-duplex mode, we suggest operating Net2Phone with VOX turned off as operating with VOX on may deteriorate the quality of the call. When in half-duplex/VOX OFF mode, HDX will appear on the Net2Phone screen during all calls. VOX ON: Automatic Mode When VOX is on, Net2Phone will automatically switch between TALK, SCAN and LISTEN modes. When you are speaking, Net2Phone remains in TALK mode until silence is detected. Net2Phone then automatically switches to SCAN mode, waiting for the next person to speak. If the person you called speaks, Net2Phone automatically switches to LISTEN mode and will stay in LISTEN mode until silence is detected. In order to turn VOX on, choose MENU button and click VOX. When using Net2Phone in half-duplex/VOX ON mode, VOX will appear on the Net2Phone screen during all calls. REMEMBER: Please close your Internet browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) and any open applications before using Net2Phone to insure the highest quality.. 3.
