Solstice Internet Mail Client for Microsoft Windows 3.1 ===== Reference Implementation 0.9 These instructions tell you what you need to do to get the Solstice(TM) Internet Mail Client(TM), roam4.exe, running on your Windows 95 desktop. Briefly, you should first verify that your mail server has a working IMAP4 server running on it. Then download the software you need, unzip it, move the files into the correct directories, and go. There is very little configuration that is necessary, and the Solstice Internet Mail Client, roam4.exe, will run you through it automatically the first time it is started. System Requirements IMPORTANT NOTE: There are two versions of Win32S 1.3. The one from Microsoft's Web Site, PW1118.EXE, does not have OLE32 support. Make sure your Windows system has the following software installed: Microsoft Win32S Version 1.3 with OLE32 support (OLE32S) Any TCP/IP Winsock The Solstice Internet Mail Server installed on the Internet mail server where you receive your email. If you don't have the Win32S and TCP/IP software installed, you will need to purchase them from a software vendor. Installation Steps 1. Download SIM95.EXE into a temporary directory and run it from the Program Manager. 2. Test to see if the Solstice Internet Mail Server, (aka IMAP4 server), is running on your mail server. Use your telnet application to telnet to Port 143 of your mail server. If the Solstice Internet Mail Server has been installed on your mail server, you will see: * OK mailserver Solstice Internet Mail Server Beta 1.0 IMAP4 service Disconnect from the server cleanly by typing the following in your telnet window: 0 logout If you get the error message: telnet: connect: Connection refused it means that this mail server does not have an IMAP4 server running. If you determine that your mail server is not running the IMAP4 server package, contact the administrator for that system and request that the Solstice Internet Mail Server be installed. 3. If you've completed the installation successfully, you should be able to run Solstice nternet Mail Server from your Program Manager. When Solstice Internet Mail Server starts up, it will prompt for the hostname of your mail server. Before connecting to your mail server for the first time, you should carefully examine and appropriately set all properties in the EDIT => [Properties...] menu entries.
