This is Host-Scanner, written by Tetrix Engineering. It's freeware, but if you like it, please send EMail to fanmail@tetrix.internet-eireann.ie telling me that you like it. You might also wish to try the Tetrix Offline Mail and Newsreader. More info on that can be found on the WWW at: http://www.internet-eireann.ie/tetrix/trpinfo.html or http://www.internet-eireann.ie/tetrix/index.html To set-up HSCAN, make an Icon for it in program manager. Easy :-) Operation is Straightforward: Run it, enter an IP-Number to start-off with, and the number of hosts you wish to scan. Click on START and the chosen number of hosts, starting with the IP-Address selected, will be scanned. Hosts that have a name will have their name shown in the list. The contents of the list can be SAVEd to scan.txt by clicking on SAVE. What does it do, and what's the point ? --------------------------------------- SCAN uses the gethostbyaddress() lookup, which is used by applications to get the name (and subsequently other info) about a given address. This may prove a useful utility to have, particular if you're trying to compile mailing lists etc. Other applets may be available from: fileserver@tetrix.internet-eireann.ie Send EMail to above and put INDEX.DOC for an Index of available files.
