WebEditor2006 Setup Information
Thank you for your download and your interest in our product WebEditor2006. WebEditor allows you to edit your webpages online in a WYSIWYG environment without programming knowledge.
Installation support
Quick start
WebEditor2006 setup is very easy.

1.

Download ZIP file

You've downloaded ZIP file webeditor2006_e.zip. Unpack webeditor2006_e.zip to any folder on your local PC.

Unpack ZIP file

After you have unpacked webeditor2006_e.zip your target folder should contain three files


  • ReadMe.html - this document with hints and examples for every installation step.
  • Setup-Video.html - describes how to install WebEditor2006 using the installation wizard. To view the movie you must be connected to the internet, your browser must be able to play Flash files.
  • Setup.exe - the installation wizard which installs WebEditor2006 on your domain.

Upload Webeditor2006 files to your webaccount

WebEditor2006 is a server application which means not a single file is installed on your local PC. There are no modifications to your local environment, no registry entries etc. You only need your local PC to unpack the ZIP and upload files.

All files you need to run WebEditor2006 on your domain and to modify your Website online are included in setup.exe.



Double click on setup.exe. WebEditor2006 installation wizard starts.

  • Click "Next>"
  • Accept the license agreement, then click "Next>"

Choose Installation Type

You can choose between two types of installation.
  1. Installation on a remote server(default)
    If you choose this option WebEditor2006 will be installed on your domain (example: www.yourdomain.com). The installation wizard connects to your domain and copies WebEditor2006 files here. Now you can edit your website online and from any PC with internet access. This is the default installation.
  2. Installation to this machine (localhost required)
    Servers are actually machines that store web sites on the internet. With special software some local computers can simulate a webserver. This simulation is called localhost. A localhost often is used by programmers to test websites (e.g. on a laptop) without an actual connection to the internet.
    Only choose "Install to this machine" if you're sure that a localhost with PHP support is running on your local computer.
Click "Next>"

Enter FTP Account

The installer uses FTP to upload WebEditor2006 to your server. The FTP Login group of fields receive data which allow the installer to connect to the server. Enter in FTP Server Address the name of the server (the FTP host), for example ftp.mybusiness.com, or else the IP address of the server if you have that information. Enter the username and password for your account on this host.

The Package Installation Path on FTP Server group contains fields which determine where on the target FTP server the application will be installed. Please click Browse to choose a folder for installation.

Here you can choose in which folder the application files will be saved. Please choose your domains main folder first. This is the folder where all your HTML files are stored. Common names for this main folder are "html", "public_html", "htdocs", "htmlfiles" or "websites".

In our example the main folder is "public_html". If you like you also can install WebEditor2006 in a main folders subfolder.

Click "Next>" when finished.

Verify HTTP Settings

The installer will need to access via the web the application being installed. The application will be uploaded to an FTP server, so the URL of the web server corresponding to the FTP server needs to be entered on this page

Often it is possible to work out the correct URL automatically, and the installer will attempt to make a guess. If the Upload Directory URL field has been filled in, then you should just click the Next button to proceed to the next page of the installer. Otherwise click the help button for further instructions.

Click "Next>" when finished.

7.

Start Installation

  • Click "Install" to start WebEditor2006 installation on your webserver.
  • After the upload process click "Finish" to configure WebEditor2006.

Enter Password


A password dialog appears. Your starting password is "internet". Please type "internet" in the password field and click the "OK" button when finished.

Edit Web Pages Online

This is your WebEditor2006 starting screen. Now you can edit HTML and text files online.


Your screen is separated into three ranges:
  1. The file list on the left - Here WebEditor automatically lists all your domains HTML und text files. To edit a file just click on a filename in the list. The selected file appears in the editor area. You can hide and show the list clicking the button top right.
  2. The toolbar - works exactly as common office program toolbars (e.g. MS word).
  3. The editor range - The area on the right is your editor area. After a HTML file appears here you can modify it as you are used to it from your word processing. You don' t need any programming knowledge.
It is important that you have read / write permissions for all HTML and text files you want to edit with WebEditor2006. You also need read / write permissions for all folders containing these files.

WebEditor2006 verifies file permissions automatically. Only if this fails a dialog will prompt you to change file permissions manually. Click here to see an example.
