Still in at 1035. BOLIVIA: 4925 Radio San Miguel 1009-1035 2/6 w/ live church service. Songs sung to lite pop, ranchera, & classical tunes - quite a mix! Lots of "Gloria, Gloria, Hallelujahs" (sung to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic). Into sermon by priest with a very definate gringo accent, although good Spanish. Asked for prayers for Radio San Miguel, Radio Centenario, Radio Abaroa, and "la senal de la Santa Cruz", assumedly Radio Santa Cruz. In 1985 in Cochabamba, I met a priest who was on his way home to Rochester, NY after 10 years in the Riberalta area. He said a replacement from Rochester was on the way. BOLIVIA: 4964.9 Radio Juan XXIII 1001-1006 2/6 w/ "carnival" style CP folk mx, s/on ID, into more carnival mx. Poor w/ het from Peruvian Radio San Miguel on 4965.9, but the CP on top. Without a mx background, I can't describe mx very well, but one of the characteristcs of "carnival" is heavy bassy horns, usually with a "live" sound to the song. PERU: 6190.0 Radio Oriente 1106-1142 2/6 w/ "Alma America" program w/ one of the best selections of Andean folk mx that I've ever heard. Program is on every Saturday & Sunday mornings, per anmt.
