I have been using a small triangular file and a >razor saw. BTW, I assume that plumbing tube cutters would only >work for Aluminum shafts ? > There is another technique for cutting arrow shafts with just a good knife. I've had O.K. results with it: find a flat surface, put the shaft on it, place the knife at the mark to be cut. Apply _very_light pressure, while rolling the shaft back and forth. Make sure you stay at the mark as you roll the shaft. Eventually, the shaft will be cut through--depending on how hard the pressure. Use the tip of the knife to widen the mouth. I've used it one during an emergency, cutting down 6 arrows. It works o.k., but a good quality tube cutter is better. A good hard knife works best, although you'll need to sharpen it latter (the anodizing dulls it, fast). This technique is often used in model building for cutting thin wall brass/aluminum tubings. tho p.s. yeah, definitely don't use the tube cutter on carbon arrows! = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 20 May 1993 10:53:15 -1000 From: vgblackwell@miavx1.acs.muohio.edu Message-Id: <1993May20.155315.17892@miavx1.acs.muohio.edu> Organization: Miami University Academic Computer Service" Subject: Re: archery cut off devices In article <1993May19.230929.14407@crash>, danr@crash.cts.com (Dan Rubesh) writes: > In article <1993May19.134909.14712@e2big.mko.dec.com> e_splett@kaorsc.enet.dec.com (Evan Splett - Ottawa) writes: >> >>I just called Bowhunters Discount Warehouse (717-432-8611), and the one >>shaft cutting device they sell is the Horizon Cut Off for $99 . >>Is it possible to get less expensive cutters, say around $50 ? >>Does anyone have the phone numbers and addresses for other mail order >>sources ? >> >>------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >> Evan Splett >>Digital Equipment of Canada Ltd. >>phone 819-772-7205 Fax 819-772-7226 >>home 613-733-0593 >> e_splett@kaofs.enet.dec.com >>------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > I just opened a sale flyer from FS Discount Arrows in Tustin, > CA, and they list an 'Arrowshop Cut-Off Saw' for $66.95 > 1-800-824-8261, (the sale flyer doesn't have a non-WATS number > listed).. > > I have no connection with FS Discount Arrows.. > > > > - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Arrowshop unit is available in the midwest for $64.95 I don't know if that is sale or not, I suspect so. The problem with the dremel is that the cut-off wheels that are available for it, have too small an outside diameter to successfully cut more than an inch or so off of the end of the shaft. Any more than this and the handle/motor will get in the way. You can get a larger cutoff disk and mount it in an electric drill.
