Canadian National CN is the largest railroad company in all northern America. It has a network length of over 32 800 kilometres. The biggest single owner of CN is Bill Gates (14,4% through his Cascade Investment Co. and 2,14% through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.) CN is the fusion product of multiple previous railroad companies. Today CN focuses on cargo traffic. CN stopped all of its passenger train operations in 1978, when the national passenger rail company VIA Rail was established.

Canadian National 4803 is a so called high-nose GP7. It was built by General Motors in London, Ontario in 1953. These locomotives were among the most significant of the diesel locomotive types which displaced steam power during the 1950s. This one was painted back to its pre-1960s livery and donated in 1984 to the city of Toronto. Now it can be seen at the locomotive museum of Toronto.

Canadian National cargo coach, a so called boxcar, number 550106 at Collingwood, Ontario. CN uses incredible numbers of boxcars and hopper wagons, but how many - that's not public information. It's not any high-tech. The biggest business is still hauling each year huge amounts of grain from the prairee regions to big cities and harbours.
