Tilo stands for Ticino-Lombardia and it is a joint venture company running regional cross-border services in Ticino, the Italian speaking Kanton of Switzerland and in Lombardia, the northernmost province of Italy. Tilo is owned jointly by SBB, the Swiss Federal railways and by Trenord, which itself is a joint venture of the Italian State railways Trenitalia and FNM, Ferrovie Nord Milano. Tilo uses Swiss Stadler FLIRT trains of the Swiss class RBe 524 which the Italians call Italian class ETR 524. This is one ETR 524 FLIRT at the station of Bellinzona, in Swiss Ticino.

Tilo is a 50:50 joint venture of the Swiss SBB and the Italian Trenord, so it makes sense that a Tilo train has the logos of both of them at its sides. But it's not shown that Trenord is also a 50:50 joint venture, namely of the Italian state railways FS Trenitalia and of the private Ferrovie Nord Milano FNM.

Some of the Tilo FLIRT trains are six coaches long, some just four. A four plus six coaches long combination of two FLIRT units has here just arrived from Bellinzona and is stopping at the station of Lugano.

This is the newest, more colourful livery of the TILO Stadler FLIRT trains. They are still Swiss trains, but have also an Italian registration.

The very newest Tilo FLIRT trains have not only the new livery but also the newly designed more crash-proof front as developed by Stadler. Nevertheless, they have not received a new class number but are still called ETR 524.

A six coaches long Tilo FLIRT ETR524 116 is here leaving Tilo's home depot at Bellinzona and moving towards south. It's probably going to Lugano to start a regional service from there over the border to Italy.

This is a battery driven Zagro robot "locomotive" that can either be controlled by a driver sitting on the seat shown or remotely via radio control. It is used for moving Tilo's FLIRT trains in and out of the large hall where they are being serviced and washed.
