INTERNET ENGINEERING STEERING GROUP (IESG) May 20, 1999 Reported by: Steve Coya, IETF Executive Director ATTENDEES --------- Baker, Fred / Cisco Systems Bradner, Scott / Harvard Bush, Randy / Verio Coya, Steve / CNRI Faltstrom, Patrik / Swipnet Freed, Ned / Innosoft (IAB Liaison) Leech, Marcus / Nortel Marine, April / Internet Engines Moore, Keith / U of Tennessee Narten, Thomas / IBM Nordmark, Erik / Sun Oran, Dave / Cisco Paxson, Vern / ACIRI/ICSI Reynolds, Joyce K. / ISI (IANA Liaison) Schiller, Jeff / MIT Wijnen, Bert / IBM Regrets ------- Carpenter, Brian / IBM (IAB Liaison) Coltun, Rob / Fore Systems Minutes ------- 1. The minutes of the May 6 Teleconference were approved. Steve to place in public archives. 2. The IESG tentatively approved publication of Benchmarking Terminology for Firewall Performance as an Informational RFC assuming the not-yet-released document incorporates IESG comments and changes the RFC1944 reference to RFC2544. 3. The IESG had no problem with the publication of Simple Cryptographic Program Interface (Crypto API) as an Informational RFC. Steve to send announcement. 4. The IESG had no problem with the publication of Key Management for Multicast: Issues and Architectures as an Informational RFC. Steve to send announcement. 5. Patrik asked for a Security review of An LDAP Control and Schema for Holding Operation Signatures before recommending publication as an Experimental RFC. 6. The IESG approved creation of the XML Digital Signatures (xmldsig) Working Group. Steve to send announcement. 7. The IESG approved creation of the FYI Updates (fyiup) Working Group but only after references to FYI7 were removed. The FYI7 items may be added in the future, but additional discussion was determined to be a pre-requisite. Steve to send WG Review message to IETF-Announce and new-work. After one week (May 27), Steve to send WG Action announcement. 8. The IESG discussed the procedural differences between chartering a new working group and rechartering an existing working group following the discovery that different members had differing opinions of the current procedure. The discussion centered around the rechartering efforts for both the mboned and mobileip working groups. As the new charter and milestones for mboned was included in the Telechat package, the IESG approved the revised charter and milestones for the MBONE Deployment (mboned) with a one-liner added to note that this was not to be a protocol development working group. Dave Oran was asked to re-post the mobileip charter for IESG review. The IESG is to determine whether the changes are significant enough to process as a new WG (i.e. sent WG review message to the IETF Announcement and new-work lists), or simply update the charter. Unfortunately, the method for ascertaining which option would be chosen was not discussed or specified. As such, will be included on the next telechat agenda. 9. The IESG requested that Fred and Brian work together to draft a statement of support for the ICANN PSO Proposal as drafted by Scott.
