GoSlip 2.0/a2 2 October 1994 by Robert Reuss rsr@cunyvms1.gc.cuny.edu All rights reserved. No commercial use, or electronic transfer, reproduction or distribution for commercial use or profit. GoSlip 2.0 is a significant rewrite of GoSlip 1.1 and is intended for *free* use for any and all members of the Internet community, in particular individuals who seek it out and find it on their own. Commercial internet access providers who wish to include any GoSlip program to their users as a part of their service to their users MUST get license from the author. This will entail a cheap, one-time fee. GoSlip 2.0 is in the alpha stage, which means it is still significantly limited in its functionality and stability. New Features: * Greater stability * Greater cooperativeness with other windows programs for effective background operation * Object-style data design that enables the user to mix & match various configuration elements * Application in divided between a design app and a run-time app to reduce memory & CPU overhead (run-time app is relatively tiny) * Ability to pass dynamically allocated IPs to TCPMAN * Object-style multiple configurations with seperate modem, phone #, script, application launch sets, which can be mixed and matched into sequences * Ability to convert GoSlip 1.1 configurations completely * Unlimited phone numbers for a given "site", with ability to pass effort from one to another if busy * Ability to scan hard disk for network applications * Ability to dial multiple ports. * Ability to send a wide range of keys to launched apps, including function keys and shift/control combos, etc. * Ability to treat a Program Manager group as a toolbar, including a TCPMAN with dynamically allocated IP * A bunch of other stuff To come in GoSlip 2.1: * Security for both design and run modes, encapsulating all network passwords under a GoSlip password * Baud rates higher than 19.2 * Better documentation than this readme * Integrated toolbar * Ability to log-in, acquire mail (for example) and terminate I want to have a fast turnover to GoSlip 2.1 so I hope that this interm release elicits plenty of feedback so I can quickly hammer down problems and move forward. Bug reports are welcomed at my e-mail address above, as are general suggestions and specific programmatic solutions for the above goals for 2.1, especially how to deal with higher baud rates (under Visual Basic). To get started, first run GOSLIP2.EXE and go from window to window filling in all the necessary information, or choose the option CONVERT GOSLIP 1.1 SETUP under menu option FILE. This will give you the opportunity to convert a pre-existing configuration from GoSlip 1.1 into GoSlip 2.0 -- I'm proud of this function so try it and let me know if you get any errors! After you have given GoSlip 2.0 configuration information in terms of modem, phone number, script, etc., you go to the BUILD SEQUENCE window, choose new to create a new sequence, and then select the configuration elements you have created. You can then choose RUN to try out the sequence. Included with GoSlip 2.0 is an executable GODAEMON.EXE that will run any sequence you create automatically if you include the sequence ID (see the BUILD SEQUENCE window, bottom right) on the command line. Otherwise, you can simply execute a sequence using menu options. I'm sorry this documention is so brief -- this release is intended for experienced users, where GoSlip 2.1 will be more stable and better documented for novice users.
