========================================================================== TMSSequoia ViewDirector Imaging Plug-in for Netscape (Windows) DEMO VERSION 1.040 ========================================================================== Look at net images in a new and exciting way! The ViewDirector Imaging Plug-in for Netscape allows you to quickly display TIFF and other black-and-white and color images. No more waiting around! ******************************************************* * To use all the functionality available to you * through the plug-in, click with the right mouse * button to get a menu of available functions. ******************************************************* Can't see the image very well? Use our plug-in to zoom in (or out) of the image and move around to see the fine details. Use the "zoom on rectangle" feature to select an area of the image to zoom in to. Or use the flying magnifying glass to look at a particular area of the image. Use the hand panning feature to grab the image and move it. What else can you do with this plug-in? Lots of exciting things. Try these: * Enhance the image by going to the preferences menu and enhancing the appearance of your bitonal or color image through scale to gray, quality settings, and color smoothing. * Rotate your image - very quickly. * Mark an area of the image and copy to the clipboard -- then paste it into the application of your choice * Page through a multi-page TIFF or DCX file * Use the preferences to customize the way the plug-in works for you. Whether you are developing a web page ... browsing the Internet ... or accessing images from your company's Intranet system, this plug-in provides you the functionality to easily put your TIFF and other images in front of hundreds of users. This plug-in requires Netscape 2.0 or above. If you do not have Netscape 2.0 installed, we suggest that you install it before you install the plug-in. Look below for information on installing the plug-in, hints on using the plug-in, known problems, and how to submit feedback (suggestions, problems, and so on). ========================================================================== Installation Instructions ========================================================================== This plug-in is available in both 16 and 32 bit versions. Netscape 2.0 is also available in both 16 and 32 bit versions. The plug-in and Netscape versions need to match (e.g., if you are running the 16 bit version of Netscape, you need to use the 16 bit version of the plug-in). If you are running Windows 3.1, you will want the 16 bit version of the plug-in. If you are running Windows 95 or Windows NT, you will probably want the 32 bit version of the plug-in. To install the plug-in, run "viewd16p.exe" or "viewd32p.exe". This installation will completely install the plug-in for you. The plug-in must be installed in a subdirectory of your Netscape directory called "PLUGINS." The installation will look for your Netscape executable's location and install the plug-in in the PLUGINS directory. If the directory does not exist, the installation will create it for you. If the installation cannot find your Netscape executable, it will ask you to choose a location location for the installation while reminding you that you need to install Netscape Navigator 2.0. Once the plug-in is installed, Netscape will ask the plug-in to display embedded images, images viewed in full window mode, or images opened through Netscape's "open location" or "open file" menu item whenever the image is one of the following types: Image Type MIME ---------------------------------------------------- image/TIFF *.tif image/jpeg *.jpg image/x-MS-bmp *.bmp image/x-pcx *.pcx image/x-dcx *.dcx image/x-cals *.mil;*.cal image/x-pda *.pda For a complete list of image formats supported by the plug-in, see the section on "Hints" below. For information on how to use the ViewDirector plug-in menus, please download the sample page and refer to the tutorial. The sample page can be downloaded from the same place as this plug-in. It is located at http://www.tmsinc.com/plugin. ========================================================================== Hints ========================================================================== Here are some hints you might find useful. (1) The ViewDirector plug-in supports images in the following formats: TIFF (uncompressed, modified Huffman, Group 3 1&2D, Group 4, packbits, JPEG), PCX/DCX, BMP (Windows & OS/2), JPEG, CALS Type 1, CALS Type 2 (TRIF), NIRS/NIFF, and EDMICS/C4. If you have one of these types of images that does not have a defined MIME type (like TIFF) and you want the ViewDirector plug-in to display it, rename the file to a MIME type that the plug-in does support. The plug-in will then display the image (it does not key on the extension; it will read the beginning of the file to determine the file type). ========================================================================== Submitting Feedback ========================================================================== If you have suggestions for how we can improve this plug-in or if you find problems, we want to hear from you. Please e-mail us at plugin@tms-ok.mhs.compuserve.com. ========================================================================== Known Problems ========================================================================== We currently know of the following problems: (1) Print preview does not work because Netscape Navigator 2.0 does not currently support this feature. (2) After printing via Netscape's menu item or button, Netscape no longer sends mouse actions to the ViewDirector plug-in (such as the right mouse click that brings up the plug-in menu). To work around this problem, click on Netscape's "Reload" button. The plug-in will then receive mouse actions again. When printing only images, we suggest that you use the plug-in's print facility since it is more reliable and provides you with more options. (3) Avoid clicking the "Stop" button when an image is loading. When you click the "Stop" button, Netscape immediately cancels all current activities. If the ViewDirector plug-in is performing certain activities, clicking the "Stop" button can result in a General Protection Fault. (4) If two "embed" tags reference the same image file, only one instance of the ViewDirector plug-in will appear. Netscape will not call the plug-in again when it determines that an image file has been referenced more than once. If you want the same image to appear twice on the page, create two copies of the image using different names. (5) The Plug-in control region which is not covered by the image is being filled transparently. Netscape Navigator 3.04 beta does not support the transparent fill. Currently that area is not redrawn. This will be addressed in the next release once Netscape 3.0 has been released. ========================================================================== About TMSSequoia ========================================================================== TMSSequoia, Inc. designs, develops and markets text and image software toolkits and provides engineering and document conversion services to companies and government organizations worldwide.
