Properties of UdiWWW Version 1.2.000 UdiWWW is a HTML3 compliant WorldWideWeb (WWW) Browser for Windows NT/95 or Windows 3.1. HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) in the Version 3 is going to be the standard for showing pages in the Word Wide Web and especially in the internet itself. (But what ist HTML3? Is it Netscape-, Microsoft-, or W3C-HTML?) UdiWWW offers the following properties: The LINK Tag for connecting several files to show a banner as well as a consistent button bar for navigation in bigger Web documents. Extended possibilities for representation to build individual Web pages with various textcolors, -heights, -styles as well as the possibility to align text to the left, right or center. New HTML commands like DIVisions or NOTEs, or commands to set textattributes explicitely and the ability to give tables or images a separate heading, give you more flexibility. The very flexible organisation of lists allows the setting for individual symbols for unordered lists and a arbitrary numbering of ordered lists. The support of HTML3 tables. Free choice of all possible font settings and indentations by a dialog. The upcoming support (not yet) for "style-sheets" will give you the greatest flexibility for the occurence of a HTML-file. (HTML describes only the structure, not the occurence of a document.) The support of the most proprietary Netscape HTML-extentions allows the correct formatting of pages, which were especially written for this browser. For Example, Netscape FRAMEs are supported, which is no HTML3 at all. The new FIG environment allows in contrast to the old IMG command a downward compatible processing of client side local mouse-events in images, which was only possible on server side. For images, in which only small pices are changed, is the use of overlays. This can reduce netload and speed up the display of images in conjunction with the powerful UdiWWW cache-mechanism. The support of the graphics file formats GIF89a, Xwindows-XBM, Progressive JPEG and the Portable-Network-Graphics PNG is adapted for an incremental display of images while downloading. This allows a quick impression of an image, even if there is only a fraction of the whole images transmitted. Basic Authentication, and the Secure-Socket-Layer SSL (not yet supported) can achive security requirements. The support of all HTML FORM commands allows the the transmission of user requests. With a new HTML3 INPUT-type you can transfer multiple files through multipart MIME types to a WWW-server in an easy way. ______________________ | | | HTML3-Math formulas. | |______________________| bernd.richter@rz.uni-ulm.de Bernd Richter 09.04.96 Developed at: University of ULM department of information research management Prof. Dr. H.P.
