You should review this information prior to running Cyberjack. Where applicable, these notes refer to specific sections in the appropriate manual. This Cyberjack Release Expires on April 15, 1996 ================================================ This free, online release of Cyberjack will expire on April 15, 1996. If you install this release on a computer that is running an existing retail version of Cyberjack, that version will also expire on April 15. In order to restore your original retail version of Cyberjack, you would need to install it again using the program disks or CD. Changes to the Cyberjack Programs ================================= Cyberjack Archie ---------------- New functionality has been added to Cyberjack Archie. You can now determine whether an Archie server is active before submitting a query to it. You can Ping an Archie server to see if it is active, and then launch a query once you locate an active server. To add Ping and Launch buttons to the New Query dialog in Cyberjack Archie, do the following: 1. On the Setup menu, click Options. The Archie Options dialog appears. 2. Click the General tab. 3. In the Advanced Functionality section, enable any of the following: - Launch New Archie Button to add the Launch button to the New Query dialog. - Ping Archie Server Button to add the Ping button to the New Query dialog. Cyberjack Telnet ---------------- Cyberjack Telnet is a new program added to the Cyberjack set of Internet programs. Telnet is an Internet tool that you can use to run programs on remote computers. Once you log on a Telnet site, you have access to many different types of information and services, including: - library catalogs - text-based user games, such as Multiple User Dungeons (MUDs) - other Internet programs, like WAIS, Gopher or HYTELNET. For more information on how to use Cyberjack Telnet, see the online help and the Telnet wizard. A chapter on Cyberjack Telnet in Adobe Acrobat format will soon be available on the Cyberjack Web site. The Cyberjack Web page is available at: http://www.cyberjack.com/ Cyberjack Web ------------- Cyberjack Web now supports HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) tables that are commonly used on Web sites across the Internet. The Web page author uses tables to place text and graphics in any location on the Web page. Without Cyberjack Web's support for HTML tables, you would see a long column of text and graphics when you visit a Web site with tables. In addition, Cyberjack Web also supports the use of colored fonts, "watermarked" backgrounds, and background colors specified by name. To see a list of HTML tags that Cyberjack supports, see the Cyberjack 7.0 Supported HTML Tags Web page at: http://www.cyberjack.com/ref/htmltags.htm Using the Online Help ===================== Cyberjack online help can provide you with detailed information when you need it most -- while you are using Cyberjack. To get procedural help, click the Help Topics command on the Help menu. For context- sensitive information, use the What's This? "?" button at the top of any dialog. In cases where the online help and the manuals differ, the online help is more up-to-date. Several additions have been made to Online Help, including a more extensive Troubleshooting section, information about Cyberjack Telnet, and using the new features in Cyberjack Web and Cyberjack Archie. Displaying the ReadMe and Install Log ===================================== The Cyberjack ReadMe file and the Install Log do not appear on the Cyberjack program menu. To view the ReadMe file, open the README.TXT file in a text editor, such as Notepad. To view the Install Log, open the file CYBINST.LOG in a text editor. You can find these files in the Cyberjack program directory. Upgrading ========= You can upgrade Cyberjack automatically. From the Setup menu of any Cyberjack program, click Upgrade. The Cyberjack Online Upgrade wizard appears. Click Next to start the upgrade procedure. The upgraded version of Cyberjack downloads automatically to your system. General ======= List of Internet Service Providers Available -------------------------------------------- The file ISP.TXT found on the Cyberjack CD ROM or the last install disk (if you have the disk version of Cyberjack) is a list of some of the Internet Service Providers around the world. You can use this list to find an Internet Service Provider in your area. Importing CyberLinks to the Guidebook ------------------------------------- If you decide not to load the sample CyberLinks that come with the Guidebook, you can load them at a later date. In the Guidebook menu click Import. Import the "Guidebook Sample.htm" file from the Cyberjack directory. CyberLinks Reappear After Deleting them in Microsoft Explorer ------------------------------------------------------------- After deleting CyberLinks in Microsoft Explorer, they reappear when you start the Guidebook. The GUIDEBOOK.GBK file keeps a database of all CyberLinks, and restores any missing CyberLinks when you start the Guidebook. To permanently remove CyberLinks from your system, delete them through the Guidebook. Renaming CyberLinks ------------------- You cannot rename the Internet address for any CyberLinks in the Guidebook. If you make a mistake entering a new CyberLink into the Guidebook, delete the entry and create a new CyberLink with the correct Internet address. In-Place Activated Cyberjack Programs ------------------------------------- If you start a Cyberjack program using in-place activation (by double clicking a link that leads to another Cyberjack program), you must close that program before you can shut down Windows. Dragging and Dropping Files Using Cyberjack FTP or Cyberjack Gopher ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you drag and drop a file from a remote site to your computer using either Cyberjack FTP or Cyberjack Gopher, you will find that you are unable to use Windows multitasking capabilities -- like being able to start other programs -- until the transfer is complete. To avoid this when downloading files, click Retrieve Files on the Item menu. This will allow you to continue working while downloading a file. Entering Text and Changing Fields on Forms in Cyberjack Web ----------------------------------------------------------- The TAB and ENTER keys are not supported in Web pages containing forms. Loading a Web Page from the Hard Drive -------------------------------------- While you can load a Web page from your hard drive by clicking Open Page Source on the Page menu, you can also type it directly in the URL field. Type in the location for a Web page on your hard drive in the following format: file:///c:/sample.html Insufficient Memory When Starting a Cyberjack Program ----------------------------------------------------- You get the following message when trying to start a Cyberjack program: Insufficient memory starting program: There is not enough memory to start a Cyberjack application. This can occur if you have a minimal amount of free space left on your hard drive. Increase the space available on your hard drive by doing the following: - empty the contents of the Recycle Bin - delete any unwanted files - defragment your the hard drive (see your Microsoft Windows 95 documentation for details). Dial-Up Settings Disappear After Installing or Selecting a New Modem -------------------------------------------------------------------- After installing or selecting a new modem, your TCP/IP and DNS information disappear from your dial-up settings. This occurs because Windows 95 does not retain these settings for a new modem profile. Write down your dial-up connection information before installing or selecting a new modem in Windows 95.
