The self-extracting files are in zip format.  You can use UnZip 5.x
or PKUNZIP 2.04g to extract them directly without running them, as in:

  unzip unz512xN.exe

These archives are true zipfiles; unlike the simple unzipsfx+zipfile
archives, these have their internal offsets adjusted properly.  The
next version of Zip will provide this capability.

All Info-ZIP packages contain documentation. The sources are in the 
/pub/archiving/zip directory.
