Gachot Biography from GaleForce of Monaco
===========================================

Bertrand Gachot, 32, started his racing
career as most drivers in karts, but
unusually did not take any Championships
until he moved to single seaters.

His first race was in 1984 in Formula Ford
1600 but it was in 1985 that he really took
off.

In 1985 Bertrand was introduced to Pacific
Racing and Keith Wiggins by close friend
Harald Huysman and he decided to drive from
them.

With his sponsorship from Marlboro Belgium
he won the British FF1600 title and stayed
there for 1986 to take the British FF2000
series and the FF2000 World Cup.

For 1987 he moved to Formula 3 with West
Surrey Racing and finished second behind
Johnny Herbert (now with Benetton) albeit
with less powerful engines.

Next season saw another new Formula, F3000,
where he finished 5th overall in a
Spirit-TOM'S Motorsport Reynard.

In 1989 Gachot made his debut with Onyx and
has since raced for Coloni, Jordan and
Larousse.

After achieving Jordan's first finish at
the 1991 Monaco GP he finished 5th in
Canada and 6th in both Britain and Germany
having set the fastest lap at the Hungarian
GP.

In that year he also won the Le Mans 24
hour race with Johnny Herbert and Volker
Weidler for Mazda.

In 1992 drove for Larousse and took a year
off in 1993 to help Pacific develop their
F1 project. and drove the PRO1 at all 16
circuits.
